- HEALTHY MARRIAGE MONEY REAUTHORIZED

The US House just passed TANF Reauthorization with $75 million for marriage and $75 million for fatherhood (HR4783) for 2011.  The Senate passed it 11/19/10.  Some are saying things like “now it will be permanent”.  Total amount for Marriage was reduced from $100 million to $75 million, but $75 million is nothing to sneeze at.  Bravo to the folks that worked so hard to lobby for this.  - diane

Diane, here's a wonderful and true story for your collection:

When my husband's uncle was 95 he called his daughter in Michigan and said to get him an apartment, he had enough of this marriage and was leaving his wife and their home in Florida.  His daughter dutifully got him an apartment and he moved in.  Both he and his wife seemed happy with the arrangement.  Then, after six weeks went by he decided to go back home.  They lived together and continued to happily annoy each other for another seven years until his death at 102.

Like Syble, several of you have suggested I collect the many marriage classic stories I’ve sent over the years – put them on one page.  I’d love to, but OY, it would take time to go back over the list archive and locate them.  I guess I could start now going forward.  I’ll see.  If any of you have clipped favorites and kept them, please send them.  It’s true, a story (like a picture) is worth a thousand lectures.  I’ll start by simply adding a section to the Marriage Quotes page – actually there are so many inspiring posts there, almost like “stories”. - diane
