- FREE INFIDELITY THINK TANK RECORDING!
What a treat – just like attending a
seminar. Wonderful for professionals or couples. Listen in! - diane
Dear Diane,
I was recently invited to do a "think tank" interview for the Imago
therapists group, and I think it was the best interview I've ever had. It’s
recorded and available for anyone to hear:
http://www.box.net/shared/gyj4lzxpo5
Most of what I said was directly related to the ideas in my Help for
Therapists book but I was able to include things I've never written about or
said in any other interview - mostly concepts I've used in my telephone
Consulting with couples/individuals. I got to go into some of the subtle but
significant process points that can make such a difference for helping
couples.
The feedback has been great. They said it was one of the "best ever" think
tanks. And they've scheduled me again in March to do another one. The one I
just did was focused on helping therapists be more effective, but the next
one will be on PREVENTING affairs.
I've also heard from quite a few therapists who want to be listed on my list
of therapists on my website.
I hope you'll distribute the link for the recording to the list. It would
reach far more therapists than the original interview could ever hope to
reach. Also, remind people that on the website they can download a free pdf
of the Help For Therapists book and/or get listed as a referral.

- NARME QUESTION
Hi Diane, Since not everyone on your list is familiar with NARME, it might
be good to let them know that it is a Christian organization and that on
their mission page they say "We believe Jesus Christ offers the only real
hope to a nation that has lost its way." Some people may sign up without
clicking through their website to become aware of their religious bias.

Linda, I understand your confusion but I think there is a simple
explanation. Until NARME gets up and running the founding members and their
various organizations have taken on hosting aspects of the work of running
the new organization. Richard Albertson, director of Live the Life, has
been doing the NARME website Membership registration work. I don’t see any
link to Live the Life on the NARME page. I guess you saw Albertson’s email
address on the NARME Membership registration page and explored the Live the
Life website address embedded in his email address. Julie Baumgardner,
another NARME founder, who is the director of First Things First, is
handling the NARME Webinar registrations – thus the Webinar Registration is
hosted on the First Things First site.
But I know from the inquires like yours that it’s confusing. I’ll share
your email so NARME can clarify and also begin to clean up and separate
their individual organization identities from NARME’s. In the meantime, here
is the NARME homepage http://www.narme.org/portal/ - diane

- MARRIAGE AND FATHERHOOD FUNDING
the Marriage and Fatherhood Funding including questions about whether new
folks will be able to apply for funding. Here is a letter from Patty
Howell to the California Marriage Coalition members that is pretty much what
is known to this point. - diane
Dear California Marriage and Relationship Education supporters, Dec 1, 2010
The passing yesterday (with a vote of 256-152) of HR 4783 was most exciting
as this Bill, which now goes to President Obama for his signature, will
renew TANF funding for FY2011 including funding for Healthy Marriages and
Responsible Fatherhood. While the President hasn’t signed it yet, the
lobbyist who has been working with NARME (National Association for
Relationship and Marriage Education) predicts that the Bill will be signed
because of its overwhelming support among Democrats (who voted 240-3 in its
favor). The Bill contains funding for one additional year for Marriage and
Fatherhood programs, allocating $75 million to each, rather than the current
split of $100M for Healthy Marriages and $50M for Fatherhood. While this
represents something of a loss for Marriage grantees, it represents as well
a big win over the previously-proposed Fatherhood, Marriage and Family
Innovation Fund that would have slashed quite significantly the funding for
Marriage Education and provides a critical sixth year of HMDG funding that
will give grantees such as CHMC time to submit results from our five-year
projects and supply Congress with data we hope will encourage future funding
for Relationship and Marriage Education when TANF comes up for 5-year
reauthorization next year.
As you can imagine, it has taken a tremendous
amount of effort to make all of this happen and we have many in California
to thank, including Hyepin Im, Kay Reed and Carolyn Curtis, along with
countless others of you who have met with your representatives over the past
year or two and helped them understand the importance of Marriage
Education. Your work has been vital!
And, most of all, I want to acknowledge Dennis Stoica, President of
California Healthy Marriages Coalition, because I believe that without his
meetings with dozens of legislative aides and some key Representatives in
Washington, countless hours strategizing with Chris Gersten, the NARME
Board, Eric Schlecht--the NARME lobbyist, and Dennis's ability to rally the
involvement of other HMDG grantees around the country, that we simply would
not be in the position we are today. Dennis will be modest about all of
this, but I can tell you that his work has been tireless and essential, and
it has provided the foundation upon which this victory is based.
We don't know anything yet about how this sixth year of HMDG funding will be
administered by ACF, whether ACF will issue a new RFP--causing CHMC and all
the other grantees to start from scratch in a competitive situation--or
simply ask current grantees to submit a Continuation Application as we have
done for each of the four previous years. All of this will be revealed in
the months ahead.
For now, let's savor this win as it's a most important
one for all of us working to help couples thrive in their marriage and who
understand the importance of this for our families, communities and
society.
We have only begun to change the culture and this win in Congress
will make an important contribution to our continuing success.
