From Jacci Howard Bear, your Guide to Desktop Publishing
Last week I told you about a free course on Designing Technical Documents. This week, see the link over to the side for Digital Typography. Offered as part of the MIT OpenCourseWare, this is not a series of lessons on how to choose fonts or how to kern headlines. It was a graduate course from 1997 that explored the "ubiquitous nature of type and typography." Just glancing at the material at the MIT site might leave you scratching your head so I've studied the assignments and come up with three different approaches you can try. This is a graduate course you can take even if you barely finished high school. And if you've been looking for an extra incentive to dig into Java, check out option #3 for the course.

Draw a Christmas Tree
I could buy one on just about any street corner right now but I think I'll pass this year. I've gone the digital route in the past, how about you?

Templates
Jump start your greeting cards, envelopes, family holiday newsletters, and scrapbooks with some of these templates.

Transform Words Into Snowflakes
You can make it snow even if you live in the desert. Try this trick with your graphics software.
