It's me again Korsaan, Jon Kenins here ...

Today I'm going to share with you one of the most powerful
gold-making techniques you will ever learn. Once you get
this set up and working for you, it will literally double
the amount of gold you earn, for practically no extra
effort at all.

Think of it as an infinitely stackable G.o.T.
(Gold-over-Time).

Sweet deal, yes?

First, I have to tell you that there is a "catch." In the
early days of WoW, you could work this system on a single
account, as long as you weren't on a PvP server. But long ago,
Blizzard changed things so that this method only works if you
have access to two separate accounts, regardless of the server
type you play on.

So you either have to have two accounts of your own - not a
very unusual situation, BTW, many families have two or more
accounts so they can play together. Or you need to work this
technique with a trusted friend or "business partner."

Now on with the details:

Cross-Faction Auction House Trading
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You should understand by now that the Auction House is your
key to making a huge pile of gold in WoW. No matter how good
you are at farming for trade goods or rare drops etc., your
ultimate success depends on how well you do at selling stuff
on the Auction House. You need to make as much as possible on
each and every transaction, using the principles of supply and
demand that drive the Warcraft economy.

What you may not realize yet is that there are huge
differences in the supply and demand situation between the
Horde and Alliance factions. Prices for items of all kinds are
completely different on the Alliance auction houses compared
to the Horde auction houses. This is true on every server,
although the specifics will be different on each server.

How can you use this fact to double your gold?

It's easy. Buy low on the Horde auction house, sell high on
the Alliance side. Or vice versa, buy low on the Alliance
auction house, and jack the price up on the Horde side.

For example, this morning I scanned the auction prices on one
of my servers (using the Auctioneer add-on, of course), and
found that Primal Water is going for 16g on the Alliance side,
and 27g on the Horde side. Obviously, I want to sell my
Primals on the Horde auction house.

How can I do that if I'm Alliance, you say?

The trick is to get yourself set up with a simple pipeline for
goods and trading between the factions. That's where the
Neutral auction houses come in.

I'm going to explain in detail, but here's the system in a
nutshell:

- create auction house "mule" characters to sit
at each auction house... Horde, Alliance and
Neutral

- every day, use the Auctioneer add-on to monitor
prices on the Horde and Alliance auction houses

- use the Neutral auction house and the in-game
mail system to move items (not gold!) back and
forth between the factions

- sell your stuff on the side where you will get
the most gold

- put the system into overdrive by actively buying
low on one faction, and selling high on the other

++++++++++++++++++++++++
Setting up Your Pipeline
++++++++++++++++++++++++

You are going to make low level alts (alternate characters) to
do all your buying and selling.

You need 4 alts in total - 2 Alliance, and 2 Horde. One
Alliance toon sits in Stormwind, one Horde toon goes to the
Undercity, and you need to put one alt of each faction at the
Neutral auction house in Booty Bay.

You can choose a different combination of cities if you
prefer, but I've found that the configuration above is the
easiest to set up. Also, Stormwind and Undercity have more
convenient access to good limited-supply recipies than the
other major cities.

Be careful setting this up on PvE servers and RP servers.
Although you are allowed to create both Horde and Alliance
characters on one account on these server types, you *must*
put your opposite faction alts on different accounts.
Otherwise, you won't be able to buy your own auctions in the
Neutral auction house.

On a PvP server, this won't be an issue, since you aren't
allowed to have characters of opposing factions on the same
account and server.

It takes very little time to create the mules and put them in
place. For the main auction houses, you don't even have to
level your characters up. Level 1's can run to the major
cities without too much trouble. For Horde, make a Troll or
Ogre, run them north to Orgrimmar, then take the Zepelin to
Undercity. For Alliance, make a Human and run them west to
Stormwind.

Level your characters up to level 3 or 4 if you want things
really easy - it only takes a few minutes. The run will be
easier with a couple of levels under your belt. And doing a
couple of starter quests will also give you a chance to gather
a few silver for each character. Just sell whatever drops from
the starter mobs you kill. Once you've got even 3 or 4 silver,
you're good to go... it will come in handy when it's time to
start trading. Of course, you can also just send some gold to
the alts by mail, as long as you have an existing character of
the same faction.

The Neutral auction house is a little trickier, since you have
to move your characters through some relatively dangerous
territory. This is why I recommend Booty Bay rather than the
other towns with Neutral AH's (Gadgetzan, Everlook). It's
relatively easy to get low level characters to Booty Bay.

For the Horde, it takes about 5 minutes to get a level 1
character from the Troll/Ogre starting zone, the Valley of
Trials, to Booty Bay - once you know the trick :)

Create your character, then run a short way south from the
spawn point, then west / south-west into the little flatland
patch you see on your map, towards the western coast of
Durotar. Head SW across the flat area, and up the "Hidden
Path" that you will find at its south-west corner (past a Lazy
Peon). Now keep following the path out to the coast, jump in
the water, and start swimming west. A Slimeshell Makrura will
most likely kill you almost right away (you are level 1, after
all). This is what you want! When you release after dying,
you'll be at the Ratchet graveyard in the Barrens. Accept a
rez from the Spirit Healer, and run down to the dock in
Ratchet (N.W. from the graveyard). Take the boat to Booty Bay
and you're done.

The Booty Bay "auction house" is right at the Bank, which is
at the far opposite end of the wharf (south) from the boat
landing. You'll find Auctioneer O'reely standing on a crate
between the bank and the mailbox.

For your Alliance character, it'll take a little more effort.
You could level your Human up to level 8 or 9 first to make
this easier, but it will be faster to just blast your way
through by dying and rez'ing as necessary.

From the Northshire starting area, follow the roads west
across Elwyn Forest, into Westfall. Keep following the road
south through Westfall, then turn west towards Moonbrook. Keep
going past Moonbrook and straight out to the coast (head for
the Westfall Lighthouse, if you remember it from questing here
in the past). Avoid aggro from the bad guys as much as
possible. Head for the water, dive in... and start swimming!
You're going to swim all the way to Booty Bay, going south and
following the coast line. Don't go too far from shore, or you
will become "tired" and die. Do your best to avoid mobs, but
expect to die a few times on your way. It will take about half
an hour, maybe even an hour, to get to Booty Bay - not bad
considering the rewards to come!

Park your weary swimmer beside the bank, and the hard part is
done.

Start Trading!

I'm going to look at the cross-faction trading process in
detail in the next issue of Secret Warcraft. But you're all
set up and champing at the bit to start making the big gold,
so here's a quick outline.

1. Scan the Horde and Alliance auction houses daily, and look
for trade goods and items that sell in steady volume, with
large price differentials between the factions. Depending on
your server, this may be Primals, herbs such as Goldthorn and
Ghost Mushroom, Arcane Crystals, potions like Elixir of Shadow
Power, Thorium Ore, Knothide Leather and many many more.

2. Take special note of items that you know (from reading
Secret Warcraft) are always priced differently on the Horde
and Alliance sides. This includes White Kittens and other
non-combat pets, Deviate Fish, Blood Elf Bandit Masks, Deviate
Scale, Zhevra Leather and so on.

3. Move items between factions to take advantage of the best
selling opportunities. Do this through the Neutral Auction
house. Mail the goods to the appropriate same-faction mule
character in Booty Bay. That character puts them up for sale
at a very low price, like 1 silver buyout, with a 2-hour
auction duration (to minimize auction house fees). The other
Booty Bay mule character buys the items *immediately*, so that
no one else gets a chance to "steal" them from you, then mails
them to the big-city mule of his faction. Now sell on the main
auction house for a high price.

4. Always trade goods rather than gold, and keep the prices
absolutely low. To move large amounts of gold between
factions, buy items you know will sell easily and well, and
trade them back and forth. Stacks of expensive enchanting
shards are often ideal for this. DON'T move gold by selling
cheap items at high prices - you'll lose 15% of the selling
price to Auction House fees.

And really, Korsaan, that's all there is to it. You won't
believe how profitable this becomes. Once you get the hang of
it, you'll be doubling and compounding your gold stash with
very little effort.

Now go make yourself some alts :)
