Creating Content for Your Website | Content is one of the most important parts of a website, and it's often one of the most overlooked. If you don't have enough content for your website, you won't have anything for people to read or any reason to come to your site. Even if you're planning on selling products, you'll need to have some written copy and photos of the products to encourage people to buy. This is content. Before you launch your site, you should have at least 5 pages and a home page. This means you should have finalized content for these pages when you launch. The other thing to remember about content is that you need to keep creating it. Websites that do well continue to update all the time. Once a month isn't enough. Once a week is okay, but once a day will get you the customers and keep them. So to get this level of content you have to have strategies to create it and keep the creative juices flowing. | |
Why is Content Important? |
Content is King Ultimately, the Web is about content. Websites that have a lot of pages tend to do better than those sites that only have 1 or 2. The more content you have, the more there is for your customers to do on your website and the longer they'll stick around. For product sites, the more content you have describing what you're selling, the more honest you'll seem to your customers and so the more products you will sell. |

Writing Web Pages that Meet Your Customers' Goals Customers come to your website to solve a problem. If you provide content that does that for them, they'll be happy and they'll want to come back. So you should find out what your customers' goals are and then create content that meets those goals. For product sites, think of your product as a solution to some problem. If your product is good it will solve that problem and your content will show that and you'll have another customer. |
Creating Content |
What to Write About The easiest way to create content is to build it yourself. And the most common way to create content is to write. If you don't know how to write for the Web, you can also hire writers to do it for you. But you still have to give them story ideas. |
Free Content Isn't Always What It Seems There are also sites out there that offer "free" content. Beware of these sites. Some are legitimate. But the majority offer at best content that is riddled with ads and at worst content that is stolen. And if you post stolen content on your website, it won't matter that you got it from some other site. |
